One is a stunning 1863 Great Britain Gold Sovereign graded NGC Mint Error MS 66 – struck 50% of the center. Off-center strikes occur when the planchet is not properly aligned with the dies when struck.
In this case only half of the Sovereign planchet was properly placed between the upper and lower dies, so much of the design is missing. This rare coin is estimated at $35,000 to $40,000.
